Aftercare

A treasured piece of jewellery is for ever. Show your jewellery some love by following the tips below.

Everyday care

Your bespoke jewellery has been crafted to be worn every day, but it is still a piece of fine jewellery that deserves a little care.

Although we use high-quality materials and pay great attention to detail during the making process, it is important to remember that your jewellery can still be susceptible to damage if it is not cared for properly. To ensure that your jewellery is loved and cherished for a lifetime, it is essential to give it the same love and attention in return.

Store your jewellery in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight. It is best to store each piece separately to avoid scratches and tangles. Ideally, store pieces in the original packaging or a jewellery box to keep them safely protected.

Examine your jewellery regularly to make sure claws are intact and stones are not moving in their settings. Even a small knock can cause a stone to shift. This is not usually cause for alarm, but you should book an appointment promptly to have the setting checked and tightened. We will also take the opportunity to give your jewellery a complimentary deep clean and thorough inspection.

Avoid wearing your jewellery when exercising, playing sport, swimming, or gardening to prevent knocking or scratching.

Cleaning your jewellery

For a diamond to show its true brilliance, it needs to be clean. The easiest way to add extra sparkle to your jewellery is with the Diamond Dazzle Stik® by Connoisseurs.

Alternatively, a simple method at home is to use a good-quality washing-up liquid, hot water, and a soft old toothbrush. Coat your piece with washing-up liquid and gently clean with the brush, paying particular attention to the back of the setting, where dirt tends to collect. After a couple of minutes, the hot soapy water will have cut through any grime, restoring your diamond’s natural brilliance. Once finished, dab gently with a clean, soft cloth.

Please note that whilst diamonds are incredibly hard, sapphires, rubies, and emeralds are considerably softer and more prone to chipping, scratching, and abrasion. Great care should be taken when wearing and cleaning all precious stones, particularly sapphires, rubies, and emeralds.

To clean gold, silver, and platinum, use a soft cloth. We recommend the compact jewellery wipes by Connoisseurs.

Please avoid chemical cleaners, and note that household products such as hairspray and perfume can dull the appearance of your jewellery and may damage the finish over time.

Jewellery with a matt finish may take on a polished appearance over time. Should this occur, please get in touch and we will arrange a refinish.
